Group Administration

  • Attendance and Recognition
    Bonnie, the chair at Scottsdale, emphasized the importance of consistent attendance and recognition of regular attendees, highlighting the need for continued participation. 

  • Bonnie reported that the group has more than doubled in size since she started a year ago and introduced a newcomer packet to streamline the process of welcoming new members. 

  • She highlighted the work of the welcoming committee, who are helping to retain new members through various initiatives. 

  • Bonnie also announced upcoming elections for several positions, including moderators, Friday night dealers, and intergroup representatives. 

  • The group discussed changes to their chat system to make it more efficient, and Deborah provided an update on the upcoming retreat, which currently has 40 registered attendees but needs more to meet financial obligations.

Upcoming Retreat: August 8 -10 in Phoenix, AZ

  • Debra announced the upcoming retreat in Phoenix from August 8-10, featuring Harlan and his sponsor John Kay, who wrote a book on compulsive eating. 

  • She provided an update on the upcoming retreat, which currently has 40 registered attendees but needs more to meet financial obligations. 

  • Bonnie provided context about John's focus on relapse prevention and his Sunday meetings.

  • Bonnie shared a success story about a persistent member who found $100 in unused gift cards from the previous year, which will be used for the upcoming retreat. 

  • The group discussed scholarship opportunities for members who cannot afford to attend the retreat, with Bonnie encouraging interested donors to contact the Retreat Committee. 
     

Treasury Report

  • Asya presented the treasury report, showing total balances of $14,502 across PayPal and bank accounts, with $1,135 in 7th tradition donations and $5,773 from retreat registrations over the past two months. 

  • The group discussed their quarterly donation schedule, with Bonnie noting they typically donate 50% to world service and 50% to local service, though they are holding off on these donations until after the retreat.
     

A Vision for You - Technical Difficulties

  • The meeting also addressed technical issues related to listening to Vision for You meetings for members with T-Mobile, with Harlan and others suggesting alternative methods like Microsoft Teams or switching carriers. The conversation ended with Cathy P. expressing gratitude for the hard work of the steering committee and service members, and Bonnie highlighting the strong security measures in place at the Scottsdale location.
